General
Q: What denomination is Hillcrest?
A: Hillcrest is one of more than 750 churches in the Evangelical Covenant Church in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1885 by Swedish Immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the Word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.
Q: How is Hillcrest governed?
A: Hillcrest is governed by a Church Council elected by members of the church. While it is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Hillcrest is directed and supported, but not governed, by the denomination leadership.
Q: How long does your worship service last?
A: Our services are scheduled to last one hour. They occasionally run a few minutes longer but that is the exception rather than the rule.
Q: What should I wear to the worship service?
A: Please dress in whatever you are comfortable wearing. A few of us wear our Sunday best but most of us are more casual.
Q: What kind of music can I expect?
A: Sunday worship services at Hillcrest are a mixture of old and new styles and sounds. We worship God through hymns, worship songs, with a vocal team, choir, organ and band. The 8 am service features a more traditional approach. The 9:30 and 11 am services have a blended style with a more contemporary flavor.
