Outreach is core to who we are as a church at Hillcrest. Whether it is somewhere on the other side of the globe or in the community in which we reside, this is the main reason we exist here on earth as Christ-followers.
We reach out in deeds and in words.
“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” We strive to follow Jesus in our serving. There are individuals and groups of people who are in great need. We seek to move out of our comfort zones to help meet those needs. We do this in a wide variety of ways, appropriate to the situation.
“Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” We strive to follow Jesus in our proclamation of the good news! There is no one-size-fits-all way of communicating the gospel, so we strive to first listen well as guests in people’s lives and then share as we are welcomed in.
Outreach at Hillcrest is contextual. We strive to faithfully contextualize the unchanging gospel message in any given culture so that it can “come home” to the hearers. We try to emulate the maxim: “Anchored to the Rock…Geared to the Times”.
Outreach at Hillcrest is global and local. As you will see upon further exploration of this website, we send and support many missionaries overseas, in the forty-eight contiguous states, and some even in Kansas City. There is also opportunity for anyone to serve short-term in areas of crises and ongoing need.
Furthermore we view each and every person as a missionary in their own context: their neighborhood, workplace, family, or social setting.
Outreach at Hillcrest is just the way we do church. It is a way of being the church….not the institution, but the followers of Jesus in the world today.
