At both our Prairie Village and Blue Valley campuses Hillcrest Covenant Church is committed to equipping adults in their pursuit of spiritual growth.  Here at Hillcrest we use 4 simple words as starting points for adults as they grow in their faith, these are words are the core of our denomination.

At Hillcrest we would say a person who is growing in their faith or becoming a Disciple of Jesus is:

BIBLICAL, we are asking the question “Where is it written?”  Our first thought should be to search the Bible to understand answers to ethical and moral questions of the day.  As we become Disciples of Jesus, we should grow in our understanding of the Bible in order to better understand our God and our own humanity.  The starting point for that is thoughtful exploration of the Bible.

Casual conversationDEVOTIONAL, we are asking each other the question “Are you alive in Christ?”  Christ followers have been asking this question of each other for centuries.  We may phrase it differently, “How goes your walk?” “Is your faith fresh and new?” Regardless of how we ask it, the question is simply understood, are you encountering God in a living and fresh way.  We believe that the stories of God in the scriptures teach us that God desires to interact with us on a personal level.  That interaction and discovery is encouraged as we grow in our faith.

MISSIONAL, we desire to see hurting people helped and people who are disconnected from God connected.  Most of us have a place to belong, where we feel loved and encouraged.  We believe that those who are disconnected from God should understand more about God’s grace and love.  We choose to do this by our actions of service.  By serving others we believe that others will experience the love of God.  We also believe God wants us to invite our friends, neighbors and our world into a meaningful relationship with God.

CONNECTIONAL, we choose to “do life and faith together.” By together we mean doing life and faith with other people from diverse backgrounds, families of origin, ages, economic standing, and nationality.   Together we discuss the Bible, encourage each other in our growth as Christ followers and together we serve our community.
